Wholemeal means that the whole grain is preserved with all it's qualities. The outer layer of the grain is called the “bran,” contains protein, vitamin B and fiber. The largest inner core of a grain kernel is called the “endosperm,” which is starchy and satiating. The third component, an inner core is called the “germ.” The germ contains vitamins and essential fatty acids and antioxidants.
The fibre content is 9,7g / 100g and the protein content is 13,2g / 100g. So these white little things are a powerful and healthy way to start the day!
Rolled means that the grain has been flattened by going between 2 rolls. Nothing else is done to the grain, hence keeping all the natural propoerties of this amazing plant. Thanks to the rolling, we can eat the grains with milk or yoghurt, whereas whole grain would break our teeth. It is also much quicker to cook: 5-10 minutes for a hot and creamy porridge.
As always, Turtle products are organic. Organic is not perfect, but it is an important step in the right direction and certainly a must in any quility product. Organic agriculture is gentler to our environment and biodiversity: to other plants, insects, animals and our ground water. You will not find remains of pesticides in your Turtle Rolled Oats, as is sadly the case with conventional products.
Oat is naturally gluten free. But due to contact with other grains (proximity of field, same harvesting machines, storage in same warehouses, etc), a bag of oats often contains so many grains of wheat, barley and rye that the content of gluten is too high for people with coeliac diseases or gluten intolerance. Turtle Rolled Oats have been shielded from other cereals. We certify a content bellow 20ppm, which is the requirements for a roduct to be gluten free.
